Shane Filans family business, the Carlton Cafe, is to be transformed into a fashion store if planning permission is granted for a whole new look. An application was lodged with Sligo Borough Council for an interior retail fit out and a new shop front at the premises on Castle Street. Shane and his older sister Mairead are hoping to transform the cafe into a top of the range clothes store. This decision was taken after their parents, Mai and Peter, who had been running the business for over 30 years, decided to retire. Mairead revealed some time ago that she will be launching the new fashion store, which will be partly funded by Shane. The family originally lived above the cafe and all six siblings took their turn in helping out, including Shane. Pictures of the bands success adorned the windows of the cafe, which was a reflection of the familys pride in Shanes achievements with the band. The fashion store will have a whole new shop front if it gets the go ahead by the local authority. Meanwhile, the band are touring Britain on a heavy promotional tour. Their new single 'Unbreakable', will be released on Monday October 28th. The video to the new single was shot in Los Angeles when the band were on tour over there. It can be seen on MTV. It is taken from the forthcoming Greatest Hits album Unbreakable: The Greatest Hits, which will be released on Monday November 11th. The album will feature all their hit singles including 10 number ones and five new songs.

Irish boy band Westlife seem to have jumped on the environmental bandwagon with their Greatest Hits CD. The chart topping band intend to offset 33,000 euro worth of CD sales to tree planting in Ireland in conjunction with the Future Forests initiative. Shane Filan told the press recently "Future Forests is a great idea and we have known about it for ages. Obviously we would have to have our forest planted in Ireland." The Future Forest concept aims to counteract the carbon emissions produced by mass CD production by planting trees

Bono was celebrating after hearing U2 made it in to four of MTV's music award categories but Westlife were snubbed for the third year in a row. The pop stars failed to gain one nomination despite a year of chart topping hits and a sell-out European tour. A source close to the band said: "It's an absolute disgrace. It now looks like there is a problem between Westlife and MTV but the lads aren't going to make a big deal out of it. "They have proven that they are the No1 pop band by outselling all the others - it's as simple as that." U2 were short listed for the best live act, best rock, best group and best internet site. Rapper P Diddy will host the awards on November 14th in Barcelona. And Pierce Brosnan will be among the guest presenters on the night. A show insider said: "U2 have not yet confirmed if they will attend but there are rumours that they might perform."
